Final 360 Project -Bulbul

For my final project everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, thanks Murphy's Law. From a camera that stopped recording by itself to my USB corrupting, becoming unrecogniazable, and losing all my footage. Don't ya just love technology? Always backup your work kids, then back up your backup! So what was going to be a 3 scene story of VR taking over the world, instead became a single dystopian vignette of VR in control of a human mind. Because of what I lost I decided to add a few extra details to...

Final Project Post Matt Kaufax

Newhouse has a rich history of innovation, and we set out to capture the history of our college through the lens of innovators.  We weren’t exactly sure how to do this at the outset, but bringing Carla on to help us on the storytelling front was huge.  We gravitated towards singular events that could help to illuminate a particular aspect of Newhouse’s past; for instance, LBJ’s Gulf of Tonkin Speech as an introduction of sorts for Newhouse I.    Aside from ironing out our storytelling problems, we faced technical difficulties...

Final Project w/ Ben Kreimer from Buzzfeed Open Lab

What did you set out to do? For my final project I worked with Ben Kreimer, a fellow at the Buzzfeed Open Lab. He created 3D models of the Antiochia ad Cragum Archaeological Research Site in Turkey. My task was to put the models into virtual reality using the HTC Vive. I placed audio narration around 'hotspots' which users can teleport to using the HTC Vive controller's trigger for learning about the different recreations. What did you learn as you began working on it? There are a few things that I...

Vi Nguyen’s Final 360 Video on Watkins Glen State Park

Prior to our class, I had very little experience with 360 video and VR content. My first experience came when I wore the Google Cardboard to listen to the New York Times first VR 360 piece “The Displaced”. For my final project in our class, I wanted to record a 360 video piece on the beauty of Upstate New York. I first wanted to tell a little about the history of Upstate New York but after much consideration and suggestions from Professor Harper and other classmates, I decided to have...

Earthfest 2016 – Final by Erin Miller

There's no better way to share a day than with 360 video. Especially if that day is EarthFest. Every year, the Students of Sustainability, NYPIRG, and SU Sustainability Division throw a festival in Thornden Park to bring awareness to sustainable and Earth-friendly organizations, movements, and initiatives happening in the city of Syracuse.   It's a very family and pet friendly event and I chose to capture the fun things that were going on during the day including slack-lining, painting, dancing, and hanging out with floppy dogs. Check out my video on...

Final Project – Stanlyn (Ye Lu)

I built a scene which shows the mental world of a woman. She lives a tedious life in reality: married a reliable guy, doing a stable job, with a nice house and two children. She never cooks or do any chores at home - she hire people to do them. But when she was young, she had a dream of living in a beautiful house, cooking for her husband and children, doing something she loves. She did not get together with the guy she loved, so she kept making "right"...

A Man, A Final, and A Bus.

My final VR project of the semester was always going to be about my dream. Since September two fellow Syracuse University seniors and I have been growing our video production startup into a full fledged business. Our key distinguishing factor? We're going to live on a school bus when we graduate and drive around the country making short explainer videos for startups and small businesses to use for Kickstarter campaigns, business competitions, and on their company websites. We know a thing or two about crowdfunding campaigns too. Our Indiegogo campaign...

Final Project – Samantha Ho (& Brooke Glatz)

Throughout my time in the VR Storytelling class, I have constantly been inspired by the many opportunities that 360° video provides for one of my biggest interests, musical theatre. Whether it was watching Disney on Broadway's Circle of Life in 360° YouTube video or hearing Erin Miller's presentation about a company that was utilizing virtual reality to "break the fourth wall", I was inspired by the headset's ability to enhance and expand an audience member's interaction with performance. Following my passions, I decided to form my final project around First...

Final Project-Escape from the Island-Renyan Jiang

The final project I designed is a mystery game which is now built up in Unity. The original story was about a middle-aged man woke up in a strange island only found out that his car was crushed and the sea level was rising. And the player’s task was to help him escape from the island. However, since I’m so interested in the program, plus people love those games which would apply their detective skills, I decided to make it more complicated and tricky. With some feedbacks, the new story is adapted as...

Final Project – Meng Fu

My story is about the mental world of a transgender. He found he would like to be a girl in his childhood. But people surround him teased him, which made him starts to have mental problem. He has had a great time with his boyfriend but they broke up in the end. The whole scene is a imaginary world of him. He was stuck in an endless corridor. The process of finding a way out is also his trying of knowing himself thoroughly. I used playmaker to make the animation...
