Jennifer Li – Assignment 5

Reality capture is such a cool concept—taking things from the real world and replicating it in virtual reality. It’s aspects like this that add to the immersion factor and blur the lines between virtual and reality. This concept reminded me a lot of the movie Inception. There was a line in there that read “Never recreate places from your memory…because building a dream from your memory is the easiest way to lose your grasp on what's real and what is a dream”. In the movie, losing your grasp on what’s...

Assignment 5 — Caitlin Gillman

This project was... potentially awesome but turned out to be very frustrating. The assignment said to create a scene from something you did over the summer. One of the more exciting things I did over the summer was travel out of the country for the first time. I went to the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. I was there for the duration of the 2 week long festival, interning for a small film company, seeing amazing movies, meeting important people, and enjoying the surroundings. After that experience, I headed...

Assignment 5

http://vrstorytelling.org/projects/assignment5/OliviaArtyAssignment5/Beach_Assignmen_5/index.html Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly for this assignment unitl now. I had no problem dowloading my 3D scan, sounds and creating a scene in Unity. Nor did I have problem exporting my scene as a Web GL as it plays perfectly well locally. However, uploading the WebGL into the FTP was a little confusing...

Sarconi – Assignment 5

Assignment five was a mixture of hope, frustration and ultimately disappointment. I was very excited to create a scene in which I could 3-D scan real-life objects into it, because there is a fascination associated with seeing real-life things in a virtual setting. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be there, and when it is you get this giddy sensation and think “Hey! I know what that is! I see that all the time!” Unfortunately, though, the technology just isn’t quite there yet to elicit such a response.   At first...

Assignment 5: 3D Models and Scanning

By: Kristen Powers With this assignment I discovered that I am really good at scanning people with the iPad. During Wednesday's class I scanned Eric and I was really impressed with how it turned out so I decided to incorporate him into my scene. I did not have too much trouble bringing him into my scene, but I did find that the texture was not as solid as it appeared when on the scanner. I could not figure out how to make it so that he was completely solid. I...

Assignment 4 – Josh Daghir

Assignment 4 made me realize that animation is crucial for an experience to feel immersive. Animations make characters feel real. Despite their importance, applying animations is the trickiest Unity process that I have encountered so far. One of the reasons why adding animation is so complicated is because there are so many external programs involved. Mixamo and Fuse are incredible resources, and I cannot believe that they are currently free. The Mixamo library of animations is massive, and they work with all humanoid characters. I also created my own character...

Assignment 4: Working With Characters

By: Kristen Powers I was pretty excited when I came into your office hours and we figured out how to make my zombie walk in the right direction. I still can improve on playmaker, but with this assignment I felt like I actually understood it. I helped to map out what I wanted to happen, and then just take it step my step. I was able to add in a Mixamo character, and have the animation play automatically. When I downloaded it the character was zombie like, but I was...

Assignment 4 – Andrew Polino

While my use of Mixamo and Fuse models was nowhere near as creative as what I've seen some of my classmates do, this was the assignment I started to feel the ambition. One of my biggest limitations was the fact that I spent the minimal amount of time learning how to import Mixamo characters and design avatars on Fuse (to be fair, it was probably the simplest process of any I've been introduced to in this class) and spent a lot more time stuck on the interactivity problems of Assignment...

Assignment 4 – Kevin Zsitvay

Working with Mixamo was very fun! Overall I spent way too much time browsing through the different animations it had to offer. The fun then ended (not entirely though) when trying to use Mixamo characters within playmaker. My goal for the assignment was to make just a simple triggered scene. The idea was to have my first Mixamo character approach the other and then headbutt the other. After being headbutted, the second Mixamo character would then fall flat. After a lot of tinkering and frustration, I got it to work...

Assignment 4 – Prasanna Kulkarni

Assignment 4 was really the one where I have started working on my final project and the skeleton of the final project has started taking shape. I utilized the assignment to dig further in Mecanim Animator component in unity, scripting, effects, controllers as well as making models in Fuse. I created protagonist of my story using Fuse. He is a regular dude with a penchant for space exploration and goes by the name of 'Shiva' (at least thats what I am calling him for now). He lands on this planet called as...
