Spera: Assignment 5

I'll be completely honest- I am NOT very good with Unity yet. I am still in the learning process because it is a little bit foreign to me. But I tried! I attempted to make a simple beach scene that looks sort of like a deserted island. I added in some palm trees, water, wave sounds (which you can't hear on the screencast), a treasure chest, a pile of gold, a boat, and some coconuts. It is a very basic scene, but even with it being so basic, it took...

#SUSyria extra credit opportunity

Last week I helped with the preparation and production of the VR and 360 video experiences at the SU Syria event. The night before, Jason and I loaded up the Samsung Gear VR's with the proper videos. There were 3 that Professor Harper asked to have on each device, short film experiences about the civil war in Syria. We used three different video portals to download these films. One of the challenges we ran into, surprisingly, was the lack of a search function on any of them. Once we had...

The Aral Sea

My scene transports you to the the Aral Sea: a once huge lake which has became a dry, sandy desert due to human intervention. Knowing my skills would be limited at first, I set out to build a simple scene which would have impact due to its starkness.  I'm a big fan of documentaries, and the images from the Aral Sea, where huge fishing boats are now beached and rusting in the middle of a vast desert, have stuck with me.  I thought it would be eerie to walk among...

Extra Credit – Erika Zoffer

Erika Zoffer My experience at the Syria event was enlightening and powerfully impactful. From the personal narratives that were told to the explanations of the larger political conflict, the speakers did a great job of making the audience feel connected to these events. As  a member of the human race, we should all be doing our part for the greater good but the speakers talked directly to us as future media makers and journalists. The skills we have here have given us the unique opportunity to draw attention to global...

Unity Medieval Scene – Claudia Articek

Welcome to the year 750, where dragons were reality and electricity not invented. In the scene there is a dragon which comes over the medieval village to try to burn it down. My user comes from a long journey back home and suddenly sees the dragon. He runs to the village with the purpose to evacuate the inhabitants. When he arrives, he notices that everybody left the city. That’s the end of the story. When I created to scene the first time, I mixed assets created for unity 3.0 with...

Assignment 4 – Improving Our 360 Video

Our 360 video idea originally started off at Urban Life, a workout studio in Armory Square.  After filming and started editing the video, it became a complete disaster.  The room is a very trendy setting with flashing lights and mirrored walls.  Unfortunately, this does not go over well with AutoPano.  The room was way too dim and we could not see anything.  For our improvements, we decided to go a totally different route.  We filmed three different segments of athletics, first starting with a spin class on campus, followed by...

Assignment 5: Beach Simulator 2016

Link to YouTube video: https://youtu.be/6kKAmyzpCnA   Well, it took me along time to get used to Unity. I never realized how difficult it would be to create a video game or 3D environment in a world that you make yourself. I tried a bunch of things that didn't seem to work, or maybe I just didn’t understand them. One of the main things was just getting used to Unity's UI. I found it difficult to go exactly where I wanted to in the scene, and thought the navigation and controls were...

Assignment 4: The Process

Our group initially wanted to do the dance team at the beginning, we had some difficulties when doing our initial 360 video at Manley, as we were inexperience with the gopro cameras which caused us trouble during post production. During second round, when we filmed the dance team at the dome, we were able to properly use all 6 cameras to record all the scenes that we need for the project. However, the interior of the dome prove to be a challenge for our stitching team, due to the fact...

Assignment 4 – Crouse Bell Tower

Our group did the 360 video on Crouse Bell tower. Initially the concept of our producer include Crouse Bell tower and beautiful sunset, unfortunately the weather was not perfect when we were shooting, so we ended up minus the sunset part. I checked out the equipment for the first shoot but I did not participate in the first shooting due to personal issues. But I managed to stitched the other scenes from the first shooting. The first scene that we showed in class was great. But there were problems on...

Assignment Four: Crouse Bell Tower at Sunset

My team video is about Crouse Bell Tower at sunset. For the first attempt, we shot the outdoor views of the sunset. Last week we successfully contacted the tower guide to shooting the terrific interior view. The fascinating part of our video is to give the audiences a usual experience of appreciating the bell sounds inside the tower. As I have shot the sunset before, this time, Stephen and I helped to stitch and edit videos. First, we were surprised to find that there were a bunch of watermarks in...
