Assignment 4 – Improving Our 360 Video

Assignment 4 – Improving Our 360 Video

Our 360 video idea originally started off at Urban Life, a workout studio in Armory Square.  After filming and started editing the video, it became a complete disaster.  The room is a very trendy setting with flashing lights and mirrored walls.  Unfortunately, this does not go over well with AutoPano.  The room was way too dim and we could not see anything.  For our improvements, we decided to go a totally different route.  We filmed three different segments of athletics, first starting with a spin class on campus, followed by a basketball game and ending with a student playing soccer on the quad.  The lighting was 1,000 times better and the quality turned out great!  We were able to get three great shots that all went together beautifully.

My role in the group was mostly editing.  After the group filmed (I was unable to due to scheduling conflict) I met my group member Juan and we began to edit.  I assisted with stitching and rendering in AutoPano.  The real MVP of our group was Juan and Erika though.  After creating the Nadir patch, we ran into some difficulties.  We could not get the transparent png to show up.  After we accomplished that hurdle, we realized a black circle appeared in the same spot above the nadir patch.  I remember Professor Pacheco running into this problem earlier and I knew we had to crop the video to smaller pixels.  Luckily this trick worked and everything turned out perfectly.  Huge shout out to my group for making an awesome first 360 video and I look forward to more to come!
