For my sound assignment, I decided to incorporate it into my Assignment 5 scene. For my 3D scan i had added myself into a scene of a deserted island, but when reviewing my scene I thought it needed something more to seem less boring.

The whole process of finding sound for my scene was actually much easier than I would have thought. I found a website that had free sound effects and searched for beach sounds, but wasn't really happy with the results. Every sound effect sounded muddled or had people talking. I then went back and searched individually for seagulls and waves crashing and each sound effect I used was one of the first results. I just had to drop them into Unity.

Adding them into my scene took a bit more work, I searched in the Unity manual online and found that the steps were a bit more complicated than a drag and drop. I ended up creating empty game objects and adding audio sources to them. This allowed me to add my seagull and waves sounds to different objects and place them in different locations in my scene. I realized that with a little finessing I was able to make the sounds seem like they were coming from different locations (it works better within the headset than clicking around). I put the seagulls above and when you stand near the beach towel the gulls sound much louder that if you stand over by the hut. The wave sound I made louder and gave a bigger range to give the impression of being on the deserted island.

The final element I wanted to add to my scene was some music and to have it play from a radio I placed on the beach blanket. At first i pulled a song from my iTunes library and tried to add it, but was encountering some problems with file format. I looked around and tried some things and came to the conclusion .wav files worked the best. I then tried to find a .wav version of the song online, but still had no luck. I ended up leaving the music out all together and in the end I think I actually like it better that way. The whole point of my scene was supposed to be lost to sea, and I like to think I captured that.
