Assignment 5 – Unity Scene

Assignment 5 – Unity Scene

This is the first scene I've created in Unity.  It was definitely a lot more challenging than I expected.  As you watch the video, you walk through a campsite on the side of a mountain.  There are two tents, a campfire and a USPS mailbox.  I added that in there just for fun because that is probably the last place you would expect a mailbox to be.  Who would come all the way over there to pick up the mail?

I added in a special sky effect to make it look like later in the evening with the sun setting and wispy clouds.  Over the campfire, you will see very tall smoke.  That is a special effect I added in after the campfire.  I thought that was cool because if you walk to the other side of the mountain, the smoke is tall enough for you to still see it showing there is life ahead.

I came across a couple speed bumps in the road while working on this project. My first bump was the First Person Controller.  I kept falling through the mountains into nowhere.  I finally figured that out.  My last problem was when I tried to walk through my scene, I kept receiving an error telling me there were compiler errors.  Once Prof Pacheco helped me, I was able to delete a folder which cleared up these problems.

Here is my walk through of my scene.  Hope you enjoy!

A scene I would really like to create in Unity is a replica of the all black room scene in the show Stranger Things.  In the show Stranger Things, we see the characters in a parallel universe called "The Upside Down."  In the upside down, the main character 11 transports herself into this infinity room that is completely black with light only around the objects.  On the floor is a thin layer of water you see her running through.  The moment I saw this scene reminded me of VR.  I could totally see this being done in VR.  I could also try to create the character 11 runs into that is terrorizing the community.  Although this may have a scare factor, I think a lot of people would love to try it since the show was such a hit!
