360° Marshall St.

360° Marshall St.

Every day, Syracuse University's students and staff populate Marshall Street for many different reasons: some go there for their lunch break, others want to enjoy a cold beer with friend, and some just like to hang out in one of the most famous street in Syracuse.

Because of the importance of Marshall Street, for my project I realized a 360 degree video of some of the businesses that made the history of this street.

To realize this project I relied on the loved/hated GoPro 360 kit, a Tascam digital recorder, and my skills with 360 production. Like every other 360 video I realized, ghosting was the main issue  I came across. For some of the video  was able to solve the issue after hours spent on Autopano, but for others  I had to settle and decide what I wanted to be in focus. I the Acropolis video, for example, I preferred to have the manager speaking in focus, leaving some ghosting on the side of him.

When I started this project I wanted to use a Google Streetview sequence and make interactive by adding videos to it. Unfortunately there wasn't a way to do that, but I found a website called Thinglink which allows to create interactive photos, and oin video, photos, audios, or other media to a specific section of the picture.

I took a screenshot from Google of the aerial view of Marshall Street, pinned the stores that  I decided to show, and link the Youtube videos to the respective stores. This part was probably the easiest one of the process and give me the opportunity of learn more about Thinglink.

in the end, the project was fun to realize and in the process I got to meet and speak with people that changed Marshall Street throughout the years.

So, without further ado, hers's the first 360 video tour of Marshall Street. Enjoy!
