Britt Belo Final Project

Britt Belo Final Project

For my Final project I thought it was important to connect everything that I’ve learned and expolored in this class to my overall body of work. As a senior fashion design major, the annual senior collection fashion show is the pentacle of my career here at Syracuse University. With this show each senior is tasked to develop a collection from scratch to present to our professors, peers, and future employers. In the months leading up to the show, the process of building this collection becomes your entire life but in a way that, to me, is really inspiring. With that being said, for my final project here in this class I decided to use VR as a tool to immerse viewers in the behind the scenes process of building a collection that is often overlooked, yet are equally as important as the moments and pieces that are show to the public.

With this project I pushed myself in set up and editing of 360 video. I wanted to create a really intimate ambiance with the lighting of my room, choosing to shoot at night in addition to solely using ornamental lights and candles versus the main overhead lights in the space. If you look at the area behind the door you can also see that there is light pouring in from the other room, i choose to place a cooler yet harsh light here in order to light the piece that i am working on. The decisions were made so that it really feels like the viewer is being invited into a special moments.

I also explored masking in this video! Which was much harder than i thought bjt was definitely super interesting. I love the idea that at every corner the veiwer has something  to focus on rather than the video switching to these scenes. In my opinion the choice to mask and set the camera in one position for a period of adds even further to the immersion.

Though this video only shows this scene in my room using the 360 video, as I mention in the video, I plan on working on a series of videos that explore the same theme using different Virtual, Augmented, Mixed Reality softwares. My original concept for this project was to create an experience that literally placed the viewer into the different parts of process that I am explaining. After fumbling over a series of issues in connecting the various softwares  i would have needed to use and models/scenes I created I decided that focusing on this opening of the series would be the best approach. In starting with the semi familiar nature of 360 video I slowly want to ease people into a newer type of reality and to one that is more imaginative and hopefully more inspiring.
