Animal Shelter 360 Video

Animal Shelter 360 Video

My idea is to create a 360 video experience of a local animal shelter. The main idea behind this video is to create empathy and make the users feel like they are interacting with these different animals. Before I went to an animal shelter, I had a somewhat negative outlook towards them. I had thought they were locations to house stray animals or vicious pets (kind of like a jail for bad pets). Once I visited a shelter and learned more about the pets in it, my viewpoint completely shifted. This video project could help bring a more uplifting side to animal shelters and help the users learn more about the animals themselves and the conditions they were put through.

My idea for shooting the footage would to possibly have an up close shot with a variety of the pets, and have the animals name/story floating in the shot to give more information about them. If its possible, it would be great to have a shot face to face with the pet, but if not then it could be from behind the cage/glass. There shouldn't be much movement from the camera since they are usually kept in small areas. The viewer could look around at other cages and select which one they want to view.

Another possibility would be to have a camera on a head-mount and then have someone physically interacting with the pets. This could make the viewers feel more connected with the animals.

There is an animal shelter here in Syracuse called CNY SCPA and they have 40 pets currently at their shelter (25 dogs, 8 rabbits, 6 cats, and 2 guinea pigs). Each pet has a name and a backstory so it would be a perfect location to shoot.

Since some of the other animals were off-limits during the shooting, we decided to narrow the video down to only cats at the shelter.
