Independent Learning – Nguyen

I was very new to VR and 360 video prior to our class so I had a lot to learn and catch up on during the course of this semester. I spent a good amount of my time on Lynda.com learning various tutorials on the functionality of the GoPros.

As a graduate student in the Multimedia, Photography, & Design program I needed to familiarize myself with the GoPros. I do not own a GoPro so I had to learn how to navigate and operate them for our assignments and simply just to know other forms of equipment besides DSLRs.

I found out that the interface design of the GoPros is extremely difficult to navigate and difficult to read so I practiced a good amount of syncing the GoPros and using the wifi capabilities. What I found out about the GoPros is that they are very sensitive and needed the utmost care when working and operating with them. They could easily over heat, not sync over the wifi, injection issues with the memory card, and all sorts nasty not so fun stuff. I found out that you have to triple or quadruple check everything when working with the 360 rigs.

It's all tedious little things that you have to check prior to the shoot but in the end when it all works smoothy, it's quite the rewarding experience to see magic unfold before your eyes.
