Independent Learning – Juli Whetstone

For my independent learning requirement I completed the Unity 5: 3D Essential Training Course on Lynda.com. It was extremely helpful to do while completing my final project. Even after our class assignments in Unity, I still felt uncomfortable using the program. This course helped me learn more about how things worked and just review the basics. It was nice because it started from the very beginning with just setting up a project. It was particularly useful for learning about working with particle systems because that is something we didn't really cover in class. The section on audio was also very useful because there was a lot about audio settings that went beyond our classroom instruction. I learn best from just watching someone work so the video tutorials very clearly explained things, which made it easy for me to follow along and understand the concepts.

I also used some YouTube tutorials for help with my project:

This video tutorial is actually from Unity itself. I still felt like I needed to understand more about audio so this video filled in the gaps of my knowledge.

Go into my final project, I still struggled with Playmaker a bit. I would miss one step or one checkbox so things wouldn't work right. This tutorial was extremely helpful because it directly discussed triggers in relation to audio, which was something I included in my final project.
