For my final project everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, thanks Murphy's Law. From a camera that stopped recording by itself to my USB corrupting, becoming unrecogniazable, and losing all my footage. Don't ya just love technology? Always backup your work kids, then back up your backup!

So what was going to be a 3 scene story of VR taking over the world, instead became a single dystopian vignette of VR in control of a human mind. Because of what I lost I decided to add a few extra details to my scene. I subtitled my monologue so that it was easier to understand. I also added the sound effect of an imagined OS voice at the beginning and the ominous song by Godspeed You Black Emperor to the end. I did all of this in FCPX and it was interesting teaching myself how to edit 360 films.

Although it was a highly stressful and at times disappointing process, it was also incredibly educational and I learned more software, tools and techniques in the space of a five months than probably ever before in my life. I don't regret taking this class in the least, in fact it has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Disclaimer: I feel the need to point out that I did not make this film out of some sort of dislike of VR, instead I did  it out of my great love for the medium. I never want to see VR get to the disturbing point of addictive use and self reliance but instead as something profoundly liberating.
