Knickerbocker Assignment 6

This assignment tasked us to add sound to a scene in Unity. Originally I thought that the class exercise of being in the sound lab would be my project, since the sound tracks would be up and I could try to recreate it, but when I didn't see the tracks I went to Plan B. My next idea was to add to my increasingly absurd scene something from my summer, my first trip on an airplane. I found airplane and jet assets from the asset store and then picked from...

Assignment 5

The possibilities for 3D scans will be great once the technology reaches the capacity of our imaginations! I had so many ideas for how I wanted to use the 3D scanners, the structure scanner and the object scanner but they all did not come out the way that I would have liked. My 3D model came out very nice and looks really good in my scene. I would love to make him talk and allow his mouth to move. One thing that I learned from using these objects is to...

Assignment 5- 3D modeling

When it came to using 123dCatch, I was in the group whose apps stalled in the same position for more than 24 hours, jeopardizing our ability to do the assignment.  The last time I checked my phone, the app was still stalled.  The first two scans I took were done relatively quickly but they were terrible.  So, I deleted them.  It was the third one that went on the infinite processing procedure.  I wasted an entire weekend waiting for that thing to make a decision. So, it was quite a...

Knickerbocker Assignment 5

Utilizing 3D scans for this project was great in theory. It truly brings reality to VR, and seems like a stepping stone to the future of VR in journalism. However, in practice utilizing 3D scans can be a frustrating process. First using the scanner to obtain a 3D scan can be tricky to grasp. You must have the red thermo field over your target to even begin the scan. I found this tricky for both humans and objects, but especially tricky for objects. Then at all times you must stay...

Assignment 5 – Prasanna Kulkarni

I  enjoyed doing this 3D model assignment. Making a 3D model and putting it in the unity scene is so easy that it makes you wonder about the possibilities of the technology. As Prof. Pacheco mentioned in the class the future of the technology 'being able to scan a room and put it in VR environment to explore, making 3d models, photogrammetry, creating rigged 3D models from 3D scans', the assignment was a fitting introduction to the possibilities of scanning 3D models. I scanned myself for the assignment and put...

Assignment 4- Mixamo Characters

This was a difficult assignment for me. I could not get my characters from mixamo to keep the animation that I would set for them on the mixamo account. I was finally able to get it to work but I did not continue to make more because I feel like it was on completely accident and i had no idea how I did it. I added three girls dancing to thriller in my car scene. I wanted to do more but the mixamo to unity was not working smoothly enough...

Flavin- Things were better this time

Compared to the previous assignment, I'd say that this one, Assignment 4, went surprisingly well.  In class, I was able to save time by using the class time available for working, under professor supervision, to create a character on Mixamo and then download that character into Unity.  The fact that I now have Unity and Playmaker on my laptop also saved time.  The process of downloading my Mixamo character, Pearl, onto my laptop was quick and easy.  Once I could see the character within my Unity landscape (although her face...

Assignment 4- Knickerbocker

This assignment was the first that didn't seem to be 8,000 problems for me. I like the way that Mixamo is very user friendly, and that you can take a prefab character and animate it and have it functioning in your scene in just a few simple steps. For my project I just chose a random character, Andromeda, who I thought looked strange enough to be doing the strange animation I added to her for my scene- spinning on her head. I added one Andromeda head spinning and another Andromeda...

Assignment 3

Adding animation threw a whole new aspect into the mix! It was a beautiful, terrifying, frustrating, exhilarating dichotomy that really might have driven me crazy. I bean having such high ambitions, wanting to create such an elaborate world, just to see it not come together like you want. My project fell into shambles with the first attempt did not work as well as I would've liked because I wored so hard on trying to create the scene and add animation, instead of trying the animation before I worked on the...

Assignment 3- Flavin

"I have no clue what I'm doing."  I've been thinking that thought a lot lately.  With both of the assignments that I have done so far for NEW 600, there has been an element of fear at the center.  When the time came to do Assignment 2, building a simple landscape on Unity, I was blown away by how simple the entire procedure turned out to be.  In the blog entry pertaining to that assignment, I might have spoken about how my fear exacerbated the situation until I finally got a...
