Assignment 3- Flavin

Assignment 3- Flavin

"I have no clue what I'm doing."  I've been thinking that thought a lot lately.  With both of the assignments that I have done so far for NEW 600, there has been an element of fear at the center.  When the time came to do Assignment 2, building a simple landscape on Unity, I was blown away by how simple the entire procedure turned out to be.  In the blog entry pertaining to that assignment, I might have spoken about how my fear exacerbated the situation until I finally got a grip on myself.  I think that there is an element of fear with these kinds of assignments because, for me, technology has never been my forte.  Because I am in a Newhouse program, I feel that I am getting better at using different kinds of technology but that I still am lagging behind somewhat, compared to other, more able people.  There is a big difference between creating something on a computer and programming that creation with commands.  Everything gets more complex, and the basic system itself is already complex enough on its own.  This time, because of that complexity, I feel that I really let the fear take over this time.  And, this time, the fear really did make everything worse.  I felt increasingly frustrated with myself and my lack of abilities in the technology department.  I felt way in over my head with this one.  There was some self-doubt too.  To be honest, this assignment was not my best.  Not by a long shot.  But, doing this assignment did expose my gaping holes in my way of doing things for this class.  If this assignment has any take-away components, it's that I am going to have to work harder at this class and get all the extra help I can get if I want to get good marks.  The harsh reality is that, sometimes, you have to fall down in life.  But that's how you learn what you need to get better at doing.
