Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch by Sharon

Gone are the days when people would like to spend a whole night to watch TV. How fast all those technologies have been changing the world! Virtual reality is just about to take us all to a brand new world. The most compelling part of virtual reality is to transport one’s perspective to another. So how about look at the place we live in again in a bird’s eye?

Syracuse is a cozy city, which we are already familiar with. However, have you ever imagined how the city would look like if you were a bird? I will show you a possible to transform you into a carefree bird to experience the streets you walk on every day and the blue sky you stared yesterday.

This amazing experience starts from VAP college, making it more comfortable for you to begin with familiar places. Then, you will feel like you are taking off, which will be shot with a drone. A fantastic whole view will be shown. You can look down and see the whole city is below you. This bird will also fly to the lakes and play with others. You will have a real feeling of encountering squirrels, which can be quite big in a bird’s eye. That would also be thrilling to see how big the world is in a little creature’s eye.

If we are supposed to shoot a single scene, a large, open space will be my priority to show an awesome view with a drone. I will use outside daylight and record ambient audio at the same time. The specific experience I want to give is a bird’s perspective. There is not just we human living on the planet. See how diversity this world is! The most compelling part is to experience fly. It is not like seeing the ground from a plane. Instead, you will see the tree is big enough for a bird to call home. People should have this experience is because we can hardly have empathy to animals until we really look at the world in their eyes. People would feel overwhelming and also worthy. Yet someone may not like this scene because seeing the familiar environment in a totally new way can be a little scary.

The topic is about birds. A bird’s one-day experience will move the story forward. I prefer not use audiovisual anchors to let the experiencer discover on himself. In this way, people will understand we should protect our environment to make it a better place for animals.

Technique speaking, I will put myself below the camera and I will use a drone to carry the rig so that I would not affect the whole video. The experiencer is expected to walking around, because the 360 rig will be fixed on a flying drone.

In terms of safety, I will use the drone in an open space without many people around. I will always keep an eye on my equipment to make sure they are safe. I will shoot this video in a public place, so there is no worry about being suspicious.
