Assignment 2 – Emily Bailey 360 Video Pitch

I want to capture the experience of ice skating in a public space where beginners and experts combine at the Clinton Square Ice Rink in Syracuse. Since the shape of an ice rink is circular and the action of ice skating involves moving in a circle, having a rig placed in the ice rink will create a very engaging 360 experience. The rink itself would be a large space to work with, and would be interesting to have the 360 rig in the center of the ice rink and be encircled by the ice skaters. The more advanced skaters tend to stick towards the center of the rink, so viewers will experience these skaters up close. The camera can also be placed behind the outside fence of the ice rink where more beginners tend to hover as they learn how to skate. The camera will sit at human height so the audience can feel as if they too are an ice skater in the rink. My team will be involved in the video by being ice skaters and/or people watching from the fence. The scene would work best around the golden hour (4pm) with outside lighting, but can be modified to a night scene since the rink stays well lit at night. The audio surrounding the viewers will incorporate the sounds of people skating past and other ambient sounds from within the rink. Through this experience, I would like the people who have never been ice skating before to have the opportunity to feel what it's like to be there. Ice skating in the town center is a very symbolic winter activity that many can relate to, and most likely has been a pleasant experience to those who have tried it. While some people might have experienced accidents on the ice, this video will allow them to focus on the experience of ice skating without the risk of injury. The Clinton Square Ice Rink is a landmark in downtown Syracuse, and should be available to be experienced by anyone.
