Assignment 1 – First Impression

Assignment 1 – First Impression

During the first class I used the google cardboard, the hololens, and the Oculus Rift. I would say that the best experience for me was the Rift. Google cardboard is a decent experience however it doesn’t really seem much different than watching a 360 video. It does put you in the experience a bit more but the quality did not seem very good. As for the hololens, it did seem like a better experience and the audio was better however, for me, it seemed a little odd working in the AR interface. It would probably take a little while for me to get used to being able to see both the display and what is going on in the “actual” world around me. I do like that it incorporates hand gestures and voice commands. It would seem that it could potentially replace the handheld controllers used in other systems. With that said, the Rift did seem to be the best experience for me. It placed you into the simulation and allowed you to interact with it. The audio also followed you as you moved through. The only thing I would say is that the resolution or image quality remined me more of a video game or cartoon. I would like to see something that looked more realistic.

Using any of the systems I did not experience any nausea or anything like that. Like I said before I did find it distracting using AR because of seeing the mix of the two but I also found the audio in the Rift distracting because I was able to hear people but not able to see them.
