Final Project – Greg Archer

ExploreTours - Adirondack Park: Episode 1 This is my final VR Storytelling project. The concept is a company or VR series that goes to different locations and does VR tours to show people things that they may not be able to get to or that they may be interested in visiting. This particular series is on the Adirondack Park. There would be multiple episodes of different locations in the park. This episode is of hiking trail leading to the summit of Bald Mountain. I decided to do this as a straight...

Independent Learning – Greg Archer

So I have been using Lynda.com for a while now and I have used it for a whole lot of different things. The course, or courses, that I generally find the most helpful, at least when starting out with something new like a program are the “essential” group of courses that Lynda has. These usually are fairly long to go through but give you a pretty good walk through. The one I used which related to the first final project I was trying (which I had to scrap due to...

Assignment 8 – Greg Archer

Assignment 8 did not seem to go that well for me. After having to roll back my version of Unity because to meet the playmaker version I had it seemed that it would not recognize animations on game objects that I placed in the scene. I was trying to mimic the chest opening like in the video tutorial but I would always get an error message stating that there was not animation on the object however the object did have animation and it would preview fine. I was able to...

Unity Scene First Attempt – Greg Archer

So here is my Unity scene. I created a location that included a beach, a river, a wooded area and some mountains. I added various trees and 3D grass as well as some water. There are also some assets that I down loaded from the asset store such as the tent, log fire, the fire itself, the smoke and the boat. To help enhance the scene I added a wind component and three sounds; footsteps, campfire noise and an ocean noise. Some challenges I had on this other than the...

Assignment 3 and 4 – Greg Archer

Re-posting because I cannot find the original post for out team project. We tested a concept of doing a live action fiction story which turned out to be a lot harder than anticipated. We realized that doing a fiction story would require a large amount of pre-production and resources that we simply did not have. It is nothing like working on a normal video project. There is no staging, lighting or blocking like no a regular production. Also there are no "cuts" or "takes".

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

I would like to pitch a 360 video that uses a number of scenes to tell a story that the VR participant follows along with in an attempt to figure out by the end of the video. It would ultimately be something where the participant would need to observe things to figure out the villain or plot of the story before it ends, kind of like a game of clue. For example, one scene could be the participant sitting in their office cubicle and then getting things like emails on...
