Knickerbocker Assignment 6

Knickerbocker Assignment 6

This assignment tasked us to add sound to a scene in Unity. Originally I thought that the class exercise of being in the sound lab would be my project, since the sound tracks would be up and I could try to recreate it, but when I didn't see the tracks I went to Plan B.

My next idea was to add to my increasingly absurd scene something from my summer, my first trip on an airplane. I found airplane and jet assets from the asset store and then picked from packages a plane that you could rig with animations in the pack.

Then I went to freesound.org and looked up plane sounds and chose one that was taken from a plane taking off the runway. I consulted the Unity website manuals to see what file formats worked and saw .wav should and downloaded the sound as a .wav.

Then I went into my Unity scene and added the plane and went to add the sound. Although I had read through the manuals on Unity first to see how to do this, I still found it to be a little bit of a tricky process.

I ultimately did get a sound on but in play mode it didn't sound as nice as it had on the free sound website. It came across almost as white noise to me in parts. I found another sound and tried to switch it out but I'm not sure how well it worked. In play mode when I tried this again I was having issues trying to trigger the sound even though I set it to play automatically and on loop.

I think going forward I may try to look up some tutorials on lynda.com for sound that could be useful in the coming projects, especially the final project.
