Prager Assignment 5

Prager Assignment 5

For my first VR scene in Unity I wanted to recreate a mountain/lake experience. Growing up I had a mountain house on a lake and the experiences I had while at this house shaped my childhood. As I began I quickly to realize how difficult Unity is in regards to how even the smallest checked button make biggest impact on editing, my scene had to be simplified. I wanted to create a wider mountain range where I could put the homes within the mountains, but I had difficulty shaping the mountain terrain exactly how I imagined. Although you can easily raise and lower the terrain, it never quite wanted to cooperate with me. I also had trouble with the sound, I couldn’t quite figure out how to make the sounds 3D so they would adjust in intensity to your position in the scene. I would have liked to have added an interactive motion to the boat in the scene so that it would begin moving once you got close enough. I also would like to add words to the man on the boat so he would acknowledge you when you approached. I know we began learning interactivity, but I had some trouble when it came to trying to imbed it into my assets. For being my very first time touching Unity, I was pleasantly surprised with how easily I was able to create even the basic scene, although it wasn’t quite what I had pictured in my mind and I have a lot of room for improvement.

While creating this scene I kept imagining different camping scenarios. I would like to be able to create a camping scene and have someone be able to experience what it’s like to go out on their own and go camping in the wilderness. I think you could create many interactions with the wilderness or with other campers that you may encounter. Another scene I thought of was initially when I wanted to recreate the mountain and lake area that I experienced when I was little. Someone could experience the lake activities of fishing/sports/swimming, the mountain activities of hiking/views/bonfires, but as you progressed through the scene you would come across the grave yard. This graveyard dates all the way back to the 1800’s. There you could experience the history of the land. I remember stumbling upon the graveyard, and the chilling effect it had on me to see graves which were just mounds of dirt that dated back so far back in time. I think being able to connect with history would be an interesting experience to have in VR.
