On the Other Side of Skype – 360 Video Pitch

When Skyping or FaceTiming a friend, you only get to see what they allow you to see on the other side of the screen. Whether it's "sick at home" or "studying hard", their story is all you see, but with 360 video, I'd like the viewer to discover that there's more to a story than meets the eye.

THE SCENE:

When the viewer puts on their headset, they'll start by facing a student in her dorm room, Skyping her parents. She's dressed conservatively, with a calendar on the wall and books surrounding her. When the viewer starts to turn their head, they'll see that the student has set up her corner to look like a study space and that the rest of the dorm room is having one big party.

THE LIGHTING:

Indoor lighting. There will be a desk lamp near the student to highlight her false set up, but the rest of the room will be darker and utilize more colorful lighting or icicle lights.

AUDIO:

Ambient noise of the party goers and the student talking to her parents through headphones.

EXPERIENCE:

Ultimately, I want the viewer to experience the feeling of being in the middle of a crazy extravaganza. College is a very freeing experience and allows people to explore new things, so I want each group of party goers to (legally) have fun. Making this event in the middle of a smaller space, brings the action closer to the viewer and allows them to feel a part of this hidden secret party.

STORY DISCOVERY:

Starting with the student, we allow the viewer to discover the "party behind the story" through their own exploration. They can discover how some of of the party goers were invited or crashed the party. Moving the story forward, one party goer will get into an argument with a friend and slowly get louder, until one shouts or something breaks. That loud noise will get the attention of the people in the room and the Skyping student. This allows the viewer to either follow the argument or follow the surrounding party goers and react to the loud noise in a similar fashion.

WHERE IS MY HEAD:

The 360 camera will be placed in the middle of the room at eye level with the rest of the party. With the amount of people partying, it will be easier for someone to hide in the crowd.

SAFETY:

The fictional story is a set up and will allow us to control any variables that may come into contact with the camera, but it is important to keep all of the party goers in mind of this.
