Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

Larissa Urbiks

My story idea is to create a 360-degree video about the opening show of a football game in Carrier Dome. These grand openings with the Orange Marching Band, cheerleaders, flags and the arriving of the players is quite impressive and provides a lot to see. At a later time, we could add a story to this specific scene and accompany a player between football and his normal student life.

Scene:

The Carrier Dome is a large, open space. I would position the camera in the middle of the Carrier Dome between some fans. That way the viewer believes he is a part of the audience because they surround him. In his front is the field where the show takes place. The show would run in some distance to the viewer so that he can overview the whole area. There would be a lot of movement, close to the camera as well as further away. The camera itself wouldn’t move at all. It will stay at an average human weight, a little bit above head height of the people around.

Lighting:

There is indoor lighting.

Audio:

The sound will be recorded separately for the best result. I would record it at different places: One would be among the fans. The other would be right on the field. In case that the fans are too loud, we can overlay the audio track from the field to hear the music.

Experience:

I watched my first football game one week ago. Football is in Germany not that popular as in the United States. I expected some cheerleaders, but that’s all. Therefore I was quite impressed by the show, and I think that this is one of those things everybody should experience. The scene would give the viewer the experience of an American football game, whether he is in the United States or not. Besides, people who love football can experience it at home while waiting for the next match. For both, it’s compelling to be a part of the scenery. Looking from above at the crowd and the field wouldn’t work. Maybe people with claustrophobia shouldn’t watch it on account of the people around the camera.

Story Discovery:

In this single scene is no protagonist. If we add a story to it later, there would be a football player as the protagonist. For now, the show and the experience before a football game are focused. The joy of the fans, the action on the field and the high spirit move the story forward. The audience around the camera will guide the experiencer’s attention to the ceremony. There are no other signs needed.

Where is my Head?

The viewer is standing between the fans, so he thinks he is a part of them. It could happen that some of the fans who stand next to the camera hit it. To prevent that some of the filmmakers could stand at this position and camouflage as fans.

Safety:

If filmmakers stand next to the camera, we can guarantee the safety.
