Final Project Pitch by Amanda Silvestri

My final project pitch has been modified from the presentation I gave last week. When I discovered I was the only person to receive 0 votes on my pitch, I knew I had to think of something more captivating.

I already have media access to the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse, New York, so the question of access is not at issue. I will bring the scanning equipment used when we scanned ourselves during our first class with my to the War Memorial Arena where the AHL team the Syracuse Crunch play their home games.

The emergence of VR in sports inspired me to pursue a sports-related project. The focus right now is mostly on basketball and football. Because hockey is a very fast paced, intense sport, it is difficult to do 360 video as it would be too much stimuli for a viewer.

I will instead scan the players and in Unity, tell their stories off the ice in a way to bring a more human side to the players on the ice. I have done post-game interviews with the Crunch before, so I know some of their stories.

In Unity, I will recreate the inside of the War Memorial Arena and have the players skating on the ice as they talk about their lives and how they got to be hockey players, and even those who ended up moving up to the NHL team the Crunch are affiliated with, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

This project is meant to be both educational and bring a more human side to the aggressive players slamming each other on the ice.
