Injecting Metadata into Your Video

Hey class, Here’s a quick tutorial on injecting your stitched video with the metadata required to upload it to YouTube.   Go to this page: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6178631?hl=en   Scroll down and download whichever file fits the operating system you’re using. Once you’ve downloaded it, open the 360 Metadata tool and then “open” your video. (Ignore the green text that says "No metadata detected". There isn't any detected because you haven't injected it yet.) Once you've opened you're video, only check off the "Spherical" box. After that, just save your video and...

Sarconi: Independent Learning Blog

I used a series of 360 video Stitch tutorials to stitch together footage for both my final project and my drone flight over Pratts Falls. I was starting with no knowledge of how to use the software, so I watched this overview tutorial to get started. This helped me get a feel for how the software works and gave me a basic understanding of what to expect when using it. I then watched this tutorial on synchronization. This is an important part of making sure the 6 videos are lined...

Tips On Shooting with 360 Degree Video

I recently took the Go Pro rig out for a video shoot and learned a lot about the shooting process. I encountered a lot of problems, and I think this quick list will help anyone who is trying to shoot, especially if it’s your first time.   Charge all the batteries before you leave I had to charge the batteries multiple times while in the field and having had them at full life before leaving may have alleviated this. It took me more time to charge them than it did...

Assignment 6 – Paul Sarconi

Assignment 6 was one of the easier assignments for me to complete. I already had my scene ready, so all I had to do was put in a few sounds to make it work. I had one minor complication in that the camera has an audio output, and it takes all the sound and outputs it at once. So, when I gave the gorilla in my scene a howling noise, you could hear no matter where you were in the scene. To fix this, all I had to do was...

Sarconi – Assignment 5

Assignment five was a mixture of hope, frustration and ultimately disappointment. I was very excited to create a scene in which I could 3-D scan real-life objects into it, because there is a fascination associated with seeing real-life things in a virtual setting. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be there, and when it is you get this giddy sensation and think “Hey! I know what that is! I see that all the time!” Unfortunately, though, the technology just isn’t quite there yet to elicit such a response.   At first...

Assignment 4 – Sarconi

I was on video team one, so I had a lot of difficulty with this assignment. The funny thing is I somehow stumbled into making my project work. I downloaded a character from Mixamo, Douglas, at least four times but I couldn’t get one to work with the normal skin and outfit on. The fifth time it worked perfectly, albeit he was in zombie mode. After I fixed him up, I then made an army of Douglas’, each of whom danced to the animation “Thriller Part 3”. After that, I...

Assignment 3 – Paul Sarconi

When we initially worked with Playmaker in class I thought to myself, “This is pretty easy.” So, I when I went to start assignment three, I figured I’d spend maybe 30-45 minutes creating a somewhat complex animation in a somewhat complex environment. I was very wrong. It took me three plus attempts, and almost two hours to finally figure out how to get a treasure box to open and close and a whale to dive into the ground upon command. It was a frustrating process to say the least. My...

Assignment 2: Sarconi

Although I had to create a scene three times because I had major problems with saving, I thoroughly enjoyed making my scene. The best part was being able to walk through it, and see what the scene looked like on the ground. It made all the frustration and hard work worth it because I could walk through my scene and see the boat I put in there, or the campfire I had right next to the water. I couldn't experience it virtually in 3D, but even to just be able...

Assignment 1- Sarconi

Although there are some flaws, every time I enter virtual reality I get a rush. I’m always on the edge of my seat and feel as though I have no idea what’s going to happen next. That’s a quality I enjoy in my favorite television shows and movies, but to actually experience it is something else. It’s such a unique and focused feeling that I wonder if I will ever get over it. I hope I don’t, because it’s one of the reason I am so attracted to this new...
