Independent Learning: Secondary Color Correction for 360 Video

Secondary Color Correcting 360-Degree Video In Premiere Pro CC Between the films I make for class and the videos I produce for CitrusTV, I edit a LOT of footage. One sub-division of editing that I'm interested in and have begun to have some experience with is color correction. In the professional world, editors and color correctors are two sets of people that do completely different jobs. All of the video that you watch on a daily basis has been edited, but there is also very little that hasn't been color...

Luke Casino Assignment 7

Link to YouTube video: https://youtu.be/_HmO05od7RM This assignment helped me get a little bit more comfortable with Playmaker and Unity. Using skills that I had learned in previous classes, it was pretty easy to get things set up. I made sure to start a new scene from scratch this time, to avoid any conflicts. I used cubes for waypoints as was instructed and found that to be the easiest way to see what I was doing, both in the logic of Playmaker and the actual game. The details are important- you...

Assignment 6: Interactivity using Playmaker

After finishing this assignment, I think it's funny that sometimes the smallest mistakes cause the biggest issues. Really makes you appreciate the way that normal reality works. Playmaker is a really interesting toolset for Unity. The way that it turns some really complex actions into a (relatively) simple user interface is awesome. If Unity alone is good for making worlds and environments, Playmaker is the tool that adds action to the world. You can create events that move objects, animate them, transport you, and perform a multitude of other actions. Actions...

#SUSyria extra credit opportunity

Last week I helped with the preparation and production of the VR and 360 video experiences at the SU Syria event. The night before, Jason and I loaded up the Samsung Gear VR's with the proper videos. There were 3 that Professor Harper asked to have on each device, short film experiences about the civil war in Syria. We used three different video portals to download these films. One of the challenges we ran into, surprisingly, was the lack of a search function on any of them. Once we had...

Assignment 5: Beach Simulator 2016

Link to YouTube video: https://youtu.be/6kKAmyzpCnA   Well, it took me along time to get used to Unity. I never realized how difficult it would be to create a video game or 3D environment in a world that you make yourself. I tried a bunch of things that didn't seem to work, or maybe I just didn’t understand them. One of the main things was just getting used to Unity's UI. I found it difficult to go exactly where I wanted to in the scene, and thought the navigation and controls were...

Assignment 4- Luke Casino

Link to video: https://youtu.be/8oFA42Re6q8  One of the biggest and most noticeable improvements that we made to our video were the facts about how alcohol impacts university students. We placed these at the end of the video on a black screen to allow the viewer to read them without any other distractions. I thought this was cool to do as it made the video into an interesting new kind of PSA from an idea that was initially just meant to be funny. Although other group members did the research, this was one of the...

SU Soccer 360 video proposal

For our first 360 video project, I propose that we record a Syracuse Soccer game at SU Soccer Stadium. Now, I know what you're thinking: If you're going to do an event, especially a sport, why not record a much more accessible one, with a recognizable arena, like a football game in the Carrier Dome? Well, the unfortunate thing about that is press access, which is much, much harder to get for a football game. There are way more people attending a football game than any other Syracuse sport (even...

New experiences in VR

Although I've had some experience in VR before, my time in the Innovation Lab helped me experience a lot more about the medium. I was able to try new pieces of hardware such as the Samsung Gear and the RIEM 3. I think that the Gear VR and the RIEM were pretty great as more high-quality mobile versions of VR are concerned. They allowed portability, with the advantages of control using simple buttons to interact with the media. The 3D video on stage for a band at a music festival...
