VR research presentation- Jack & Samarth
Samarth and I decided to do our VR research presentation on the United Nations VR lab (UNVR). The purpose of UNVR is to allow decision makers and global citizens the opportunity to experience, through Virtual Reality (VR), the world’s most pressing issues such as war, health epidemics, natural disasters, climate change, pollution, and migration from the perspective of the world’s most vulnerable people. UNVR was created by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Action Campaign in 2015. Which was created in 2002 as an initiative of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (A South Korean diplomat who was the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 2007 to December 2016.) to support the UN and it’s Member States with the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, as outlined in Agenda 2030, through advocacy and public engagement. UNVR was Spearheaded by Gabo Arora. He is the Creative Director & Senior Advisor at the United Nations; Founder & President of LightShed, a virtual reality and social impact start-up; Founder of UNVR and an award-winning filmmaker represented by Within/Vrse. His work focuses on new technologies that promote social causes and make decision-making processes more inclusive. Some VR movies he created were “Clouds Over Sidra”, "Waves of Grace” and “My Mother’s Wing”
UNVR has been proven to increase donor support and long term commitment to humanitarian initiatives.
