Roller Derby

Roller Derby

For this assignment I decided to film the Assault City Roller Derby team. I thought roller derby would be a visually exciting and fun 360 video. I had a few other ideas and tried filming one of them as well but this idea is what seemed to work best. It was difficult getting a time to film since they did not have regular practice this past week so I had to coordinate and wait until Tuesday night but I think it worked out. I mostly kept the camera at eye level and moved it around the track to catch the action. I chose not to have any moving shots so that it wouldn’t make anyone feel motion sick but still have a lot happening in each shot. Roller Derby is still a relatively new sport and I thought it would be fun for people who do not know much about it to get to experience a practice.

Also I tried to use both the Samsung and the Omni at the same time but the Omni tripod was not steady so I stopped. When importing I realized I was glad for this because the Samsung had a much better exposure then the Omni. The lighting in The Vault where this was filmed is very bright in some areas in dark in the rest so I was worried how it would look but the Omni got the lighting well.

I found that the “offset” effect is a great way to change the default orientation of a video.

Here is a link to the video. It is currently an unlisted video that I uploaded to my own YouTube account. The reason for this is because I need to send ACRD the final version of the video; they will give me feedback and then upload it to the team page. I hope this is okay.
