Additional Learning Requirement Viola

For my additional learning requirement, I did the "Unity 5: 3D Essential Training" Lynda.com tutorial, to try and get a better grasp on how Unity works. It was very useful to be able to go a little more in depth with what Unity can do, as well as the valuable ability to pause and rewind the lesson, so the many times I got lost, I was able to go back. Some big things I learned were things like being able to alter an object's visual properties with greater detail. I...

Viola FInal project

Our final project (I worked with Marissa Blanchard) went fairly smooth through shooting, but met several problems on the back end. Our idea was to shoot a 360 video at a Syracuse Chiefs game, putting fans right by the dugout, in front row seats. Marissa really deserves the credit for reaching out and getting us access and permission to do this. Our original plan was to shoot opening day, but after it got delayed due to a pari of rain outs, we had to settle for a different game. However...

Viola- Final project

For my final project, I will be working with Marissa Blanchard to create 360 videos of the Syracuse Chiefs opening day.   Our plan is to take two videos, one of the opening ceremonies, and one of in-game action. This creates two scenes, so we can split who is taking the lead on each one. The idea will be to capture the game day feel, and give viewers the as-if-you-were-there experience. The in game action will be shot from atop the third base dugout, capturing both crowd reactions and the...

Viola Assignment 7

Here is my Unity assignment 7. I got the basics of making the character move back and forth down, which took a while but was cool. I think I am actually starting to get a handle on Unity, and dare I say even be OK with doing a final project in it *gasp*.   But what I am particularly proud of was grabbing my own sound and making the miniature concert you can see at the end of the scene. The sound doesn't work from the screen grab, but...

Thomas Viola – Unity assignment

A former VR Storytelling student told me the biggest piece of advice for using Unity is to never give up. I promptly went and blew that advice. The video you see here is incredibly basic, because this was my second attempt at finishing this project. The first attempt was going well until I broke something in Unity, tried to go back to a point I knew was safe, only to find out that for some reason it was still broken. At that point I did probably the worst thing...

Assignment 2 – Thomas Viola

The Living Room Let's Play Concept: There is a popular type of youtube videos called "Let's Plays" where people will watch someone playing through a video game. Typically, a feed of the player's TV will take up most of the screen, while a camera showing the player's reaction shows up in a corner of the screen (think picture in picture mode on your TV). I'd like to create a new genre of Let's Plays, where you are placed in the room with the player, rather than watching this split feed....

Assignment 1 Thomas Viola

The best way I can describe my VR experiences is as quasi-religious events. Every time I take off the headset, I feel like I have just seen the future. Putting on the headset creates an immersive experience on a level like nothing I have ever seen before. It is an amazing feeling, like you are actually in a game, not just watching it on a screen right in front of your face. Playing through Aperture Robot Repair made me truly feel like I was in the Aperture Laboratory. Obviously VR...
