Final Project: Parkinson’s Unity Walk

For my final project, I did a 360 degree video of the Parkinson's Unity Walk in Central Park on April 22nd. This walk is an annual event which brings thousands of people to NYC to raise money and awarness for Parkinson's Disease and P.D. research and for the tenth year running the walk raised more than $1 million. For my project, I aimed to not only transport people from wherever they are to Central Park to experience the walk, but also to let them go through the walk with the...

Assignment 6: Isolated Town in Unity

This was my first effort to really create a scene in Unity that made sense. I began by creating my terrain, which I wanted to be hilly but not mountainous. This proved to be more difficult than I initially thought as I was creating the scene on my laptop with a track pad and I had some difficult shaping the raised terrain in to hills rather than pointy mountains. The only other problem I ran into was when I attempted to animate a horse that I put into the scene....

Assignment 5: Behind the Scenes with the Syracuse Crunch

My video takes the viewer behind the scenes at the War Memorial Arena on a game day. This includes writing, printing and distributing game notes, making final ticket sales and organizing that night's promotions. I elected to put together the piece in the style of a television news package. I used several shots from different parts of the arena and press box and put my...

360 Video Pitch

I am a huge sports fans and I intend to have a career in sports media, most likely behind the scenes in a production role. As such, I have already begun to explore existing 360 degree videos of sports games, events and venues. I have found 360 degree tours of sports venues on YouTube and tried them out in Google Cardboard. As such, I think it would be interesting to do a "behind-the-scenes" tour of one of the oldest sports venues in Upstate New York, the Onondaga County War Memorial....

Virtual Reality Reaction

Wednesday was only the second time in my life that I have used any form of virtual reality technology. I visited the Innovation Lab over two years ago with my COM 117 class and got to try out the Occulus Rift headset for about two minutes. I really got to experience different types of virtual reality on Wednesday. The first thing I tried was the Samsung Galaxy VR headset and I did the skydiving experience. What struck me with this was that it was not 3-D graphics but a real...
