Independent Learning – Groh

Over Thanksgiving break, I read Ready Player One. It's like a modern 1984. The book really is foreshadowing the potential of VR as it continues to become more pervasive in our society. The story follows teenager Wade as he plays a contest to gain the rights to the most lucrative and popular video game of all. The OASIS is a mixture of a role-playing game with aspects of social media. He has to win the contest before Innovative Online Industries can win and monetize the entire video game. What is so...

Groh Final Project

For my final project, I decided to film a standard news package in 360. I wanted to see if it was possible to shoot a story that way. Many have made 360-videos, but they haven't incorporated b-roll, interviews, and a stand up. I wanted to redefine what it meant to be to call myself a multimedia reporter. My story is called "Redefining The Classroom." It's about a restaurant that doubles as an academic institution to give hands on experience to students studying culinary arts.   Difficulties Engaging Video One of...

Photogrammetry – Groh

I had a lot of troubles with Trnio. It took me five tries to successfully upload a photo. Each time there was some type of complication even though I thought I accounted for all possible mistakes. I was finally able to complete two photos, but each time there were some deformities in the picture. The one I have uploaded below is the better of the two.   Rudolph by jgroh42 on Sketchfab

Mixamo – Groh

Using Unity continues to get easier. However, I still ran into some problems with my project. I think it was the animation that I chose that caused the problem. I couldn't get a smooth roll for my character. After each roll, he would jump back a few steps. It was as if he was moving two steps forward but one step back each time. I tried various ways to fix this. I attempted to change the frame rate, model settings, and animation settings. There weren't any forums that could help...

Playmaker Scene

Using Unity was easier this time around because I had a bit more familiarity with the program. However, there were still a lot of growing pains with using Playmaker. There is a lot think about. Just like coding, everything has to be perfect and exact otherwise the entire operation will fail. I had this problem a few times. The fatal mistake that I made was not turning "legacy" on in the beginning. For almost two hours I watched the tutorial video on the class website following each step but couldn't...

Groh – Unity Scene

The scene I made with Unity is of a small cottage in the countryside.   As is the case with new software, there are going to be growing pains. Unity is no exception. Just being able to operate in the program and initially set everything up so I could begin to work was difficult. It was even difficult getting use to switching the camera angle in the work space viewer. The most challenging piece for me was adding audio to specific objects. It was something that I wasn’t able...

Sailing in 360 Video – Groh

The entire process of shooting and editing our 360-video was much easier than anticipated. Even though I have already done this once, I figured there would be more complications this time. There were only minor issues. FILMING Filming with a 360 camera is very easy. You don't have to set up the shot. Since you are shooting in 360 all you have to do is hit record, and you capture everything around you. However, one of the biggest issues you do have is not being able to see what the...

Assignment 2 – Groh

My story idea is to put a 360 camera in the CitrusTV News room. I want to give a complete and immersive experience of what it's like to put together a 30-minute news broadcast. The video would start in the main room of CitrusTV where the majority of the writing for the show is done. I would like to have someone explaining what is going on, possibly the EP of that day's show. They would tell the viewer what they are seeing while also giving a disclaimer to "look around"....
