Spera: Final Project (360 Video)

At the onset of this final project, I felt like I had a lot of ideas and no ideas at the same time. I was confused about what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to do it. I knew I wanted to do a 360 video, but I was unsure in regards to the topic, story line, location, characters, etc. I initially wanted to do a project recounting the story of when a friend of mine was raped. This was a really serious topic and the more I...

Spera: Independent Learning Requirement

For this assignment, I decided to go through a Lynda course that would help me with my final project. I found a course called VR Photography and Video, which focuses on the aesthetics of VR and making sure that your topic or theme within your video makes sense for VR. This course first of all was helpful because as I continue to develop my idea for my final project, I have been thinking about camera locations and how to create action in the different scenes so that each clip is...

Spera VR Research Presentation

I am presenting on the VR experience "Waves of Grace," which follows the story of Ebola survivor Decontee Davis through her life in Liberia. The experience is a documentary-style narrative that was created by Within (formerly Vrse) in partnership with the United Nations and Vice News. "Waves of Grace" is an incredibly effective experience in terms of educating others on the Ebola outbreak and creating empathy for people in other places of the world. Spera Assignment 7 Mixamo

Well...this assignment was a lot trickier than anticipated! I thought it would be alright after practicing the Playmaker logic from the last assignment, but boy was I wrong! There were definitely a lot more steps in this (shoutout to Luke for helping me along the way). Getting the animation to play was kind of tough as well. At first, I accidentally only imported the character without the animation so it took me a while to figure out what was going wrong, but then once I downloaded the right character with...

Spera Assignment 6: Playmaker

This was a little bit foreign to me at the beginning, but once I got the hang of it, I started understanding the logic a lot more. I'm sure once I use it more, Playmaker will be a really cool tool to add a ton of interactivity into a scene on Unity, but for right now I did the basics and I'm running with it because I don't want to mess anything up now. I found the tip sheets really helpful on this one just to make sure that I...

Spera: Assignment 5

I'll be completely honest- I am NOT very good with Unity yet. I am still in the learning process because it is a little bit foreign to me. But I tried! I attempted to make a simple beach scene that looks sort of like a deserted island. I added in some palm trees, water, wave sounds (which you can't hear on the screencast), a treasure chest, a pile of gold, a boat, and some coconuts. It is a very basic scene, but even with it being so basic, it took...

Assignment 4: Cameron Spera

For Assignment 4, our group went through a lot. Our original idea (way back a couple weeks ago) had been to shoot Dance Team practice, which we did. It turned out well, except one of our cameras completely froze on us, so there was a huge black hole in our final video. Other than that, the idea worked well so we thought we would just reshoot and it would be fine. We shot the Dance Team again, this time in the Dome. It was an awesome time because the Dome...

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch Cameron Spera

For this first project, I want to shoot a Syracuse Dance Team practice that would merge into a performance. The first scene would be in a large open room where the team practices (usually Manley Field House or the Women's Building gym depending on the day). In this scene, there would be multiple subjects far away from the camera. The camera would be placed at an average human height so that the viewers could feel as if they are one of the dancers in the middle of practice. This scene...

Assignment 1- Cameron Spera

Cameron Spera Wednesday's class included a lot of "firsts" for me. It was the first time I had ever experienced VR other than through Google Cardboard. It was also the first time I ever saw a Cirque de Soleil performance and walked through my own art masterpiece. It was pretty fun to say the least. Although everything seemed like a novelty to me since I am pretty much new to the VR world, there were some apps and techniques that I quickly realized worked a lot better for me than...
