Grad Paper

Daniel Sproll Realities.io I interviewed Daniel Sproll, co-founder of the VR Company Realities.io based in Berlin, Germany. Realities is a company which uses photogrammetry to create extremely realistic scenes of hard to reach places for people to access in virtual reality. Daniel Sproll and David Finsterwalder founded the company and the goal of Realities is to bring real world places into VR as they are, keeping as much of the detail as possible, keep “all the scratches and all the weird things.” They want people to have the opportunity to...

Moore Final Project

For my final project I decided to work with the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center, a museum/home of a suffragette and abolitionist, to create an interactive audio tour type scene. I used photogrammetry to create objects from the museum and place them in this scene. I originally wanted to recreate speeches from the Seneca Falls convention and pair that with the footage I took from the Women's March at the beginning of the semester but am happy I was able to learn photogrammetry instead and apply it to this scene. The...

New Skill Blog- Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry Tips Photogrammetry is simpler than you might think but it is a long and tedious process with lots of bugs in it. The basic premise is to take photos at every angle of the object you want (with about 60% overlap of coverage in the photos) and then plop them into a program like Autodesk ReMake which stitches it together for you. Turntable/Lazy Susan method THIS DOES NOT WORK! DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!! I read a lot about this on the Internet when researching photogrammetry and many people suggested...

Unity

This assignment was stressful for me. Although I found it fun to try to create a world I had many technical issues. I was using unity on my own laptop which is most likely the issue but it kept closing on me and I had many compiler errors as well. I tried to go in and fix them but I don't know coding at all so ended up starting over a bunch of times. I would like to learn how to fix the issues and code a bit but with...

Roller Derby

For this assignment I decided to film the Assault City Roller Derby team. I thought roller derby would be a visually exciting and fun 360 video. I had a few other ideas and tried filming one of them as well but this idea is what seemed to work best. It was difficult getting a time to film since they did not have regular practice this past week so I had to coordinate and wait until Tuesday night but I think it worked out. I mostly kept the camera at eye...

Assignment 2: 360 Video

Snow Day in the Park Instead of a snow globe we changed the idea to people having fun on a snow day in the park. We have a scene setting shot, a snowball fight, rolling down a hill, and snow angels. This idea allowed us to have more action and variety in the different shots. We filmed at Barry Park since it is a quiet and pretty area. We set the camera set at the height of an average person so it would feel like they were a part of...

Experiencing VR

I really enjoyed watching VR stories last week. I did not get a chance to try all of the VR types but of the ones I tried, the Oculus Rift felt most realistic to me. Being able to see my hands changed the experience for me from just viewing to truly being present. And any of the stories where I could step made it feel more realistic as well. Also I found that the clearer the image was in a story the more real it felt whether it was a...
