Assignment 5: Your Own 360 Video

Assignment 5: Your Own 360 Video

Review some recent content from The New York Times' Daily 360 here: Be sure to do it in cardboard as well as from your browser.

Now come up with your own idea for a 360 video in the style of what you see in these examples. You can use a stitchless 360 cameras  (Gear360, Nikons) or a GoPro Omni rig. It's your choice.

The story should be original, produced and published by you and not with a team. The final video should be uploaded into the class NHSTorm server under Assignment 5 with a title and your name, and also published into the VRStorytelling YouTube account. You can find the login for that account on the Secret Stuff page.

Turn your story in by posting a blog entry that includes an original outline or script for the story. For this you can answer the same types of questions outlined in from Assignment 2 when you proposed a team video.

Your final video must be:

  • Approximately 1 to 1.5 minutes in length.
  • Composed of at least three distinct scenes which you combine in Adobe Premiere and transition between them.
  • Enhanced with some text, audio and, if appropriate, background music.
  • A compelling story narrative.

IF SKYBOX VR TOOLS ARE AVAILABLE, the text should be 2D on 360.

Due: Wednesday, March 8 (two weeks from now).

I'm the lead professor for the VR Storytelling class and the Chair of Journalism Innovation at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
